Smooches, Etc. ???

Im new to this website and I need help understanding the concept behind "smooches, etc.". I received some "drive by kisses" and I am not sure what to do about them because no lil messages or notes were left. Do I respond? (but why would I since I dont greet ppl in that manner) or ignore the "smooches" (and feel like Im being rude in some way).
